new BOX - difficult choice
#1
Hi Guys,

I'm reading this forum since year or something. I was thinking about new device but still postponed this... till today? Wink
Some time ago I thought that HiMedia Q5 Pro would be great choice for me. Now I think that it's expensive box which isn't perfect. Later on I was wondering about Wetek Hub or Wetek Play2/2S.

So let's start from my current config:
TV - (not too smart) Panasonic 42" (plasma) - love itWink
reciver - Yamaha RX-V673
high qualityWink 5.1 speakers
storage - Synology DS213J
Harmony 555 remote control
Additionally I have KODI installed on RPi2. More over I have borrowed from friend Chomecast v1 (for netflix purposes).

What I need:
1. Skype or other video communicator. I have external camera on USB.
2. KODI - library is located at NAS
3. Netflix - I wish 5.1 audio

Nice to have:
4. IPTV. My ISP is giving me IPTV with dedicated set top box. It would be nice to have everything centralized on one device.
5. Spotify without turning on TV with easy remote mgmt
6. Casting content from computer/phone on TV screen. Like currently chromecast does.

Of course I'm thinking about future - 4K, 3D, etc. It would be nice to be prepared for that as in two years I will change TV for sure. Question is if this new box will survive so longWink Tongue
Last important thing is how much I would like to spend for that... let say that this much as it has senseWink

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

As I wrote in first line... "I'm reading this forum since year or something."
I know this thread and, yes I've decided to create another one... I have own requirements and there is lack info about Hub, Play2, Q5 Pro.

What is wrong with what you have? It seems to fit your needs, you just have to push the input button every once in awhile.

The Shield is probably the closest you will get to all in one that is available now, but others should chime in as I do not fear the input button. The new Wetek devices are not out yet so you won't find much information until they are released.

Nvidia Shield ATV: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=228158

There's no Skype app for Android TV, but there is Tellybean: https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...una.client

I would also say Nvidia Shield as is the best ATV until now and you require to run certain apps which you'll be happy to browse and use in Android TV Launcher for its easy and friendly UI.
Also the ATV has good casting reception, its like having a Chromecast included.
Can do 4k

The only thing I'm not sure is about 3d capabilities and/or limitations.

Eather that or a box with Windows 10, but ATV is easier and nicer to use.

Wouldn't a Windows platform device also do pretty much what the OP wants?

Certainly Netflix with DD+ audio in 1080p and Skype, plus Kodi are well implemented. The only thing I can think of that may be problematic is Spotify without the TV on. HD Audio will be via PCM and lossless decode (so no Atmos / DTS:x - but that's not listed as a requirement)

A Cherry Trail Compute Stick or better might do it ? (And will also do 3D MVC and Frame Packed output)

4K? Probably less than perfect.

Looking a very simple IPTV stb, loadable with Kodi. don't need those extra feature like Shield it has as I don't really play games.

I've borrowed Chromecast so need to give it back in some time... without it I can't watch Netflix.
I don't have any skype solution. Not able to set it up on RPi1/2

Skype is a must. As my parents have Logitech TV cam where Skype is preinstalled.

Could be a good idea but you're right that I didn't mention HD Audio... which is another point on nice to have list.

Exactly. I don't play games as well so I have similar doubts.

Replace the Chromecast with a cheap device that can play netflix and run Skype.

You are limited by wanting an all in one which is why most are recommending the Shield.

Thanks. What about waiting for Wetek Play2? Is it an option for me (skype, kodi, netflix)?
