Play music while watching video?

Along the same idea if it could do either videos and/or pictures (I know you can do a slideshow), and be able to turn a slideshow/video when the next some comes on but using a random list of videos/pictures, and turn back on if you had an actual video Karaoke file in the playlist and then went back to an mp3+cdg file.

Listening to music while watching a "video", nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, is something many people like to do I imagine. Doesnt seem like I would be the first person to want to do this! The only way I have found to do it is watch KODI in windowed mode and start another player like VLC and select which way you want it, video on Kodi and music on VLC or vice versa and simply mute the one you dont want to hear.
You can set VLC to be "on top while playing" so it doesnt dissapear every time you select something on KODI. Now on an XBOX I wouldnt know how, but with a PC it works quite well.
I can imagine a skin that has multiple windows, sort of "picture in picture", but I'm not a coder, so have no idea how to do it. This is thge only work around Ive found. I can have a small screen playing video (pip) and my KODI music library on windowed full screen.

Thank you for the advice, but at that point I usually just have two VLC sessions open. Or a VLC and MPC.
But for myself, I was looking more for a solution on Android, and practically for karaoke with mp3+cdg.

That seems barely related and not a similar request, IMO. Multi monitors vs playing a video and a separate video file at the same time, and in my case playing a cdg+mp3 with a background video.
Not trying to start anything, just saying I don't think they are as related as you stated.

The OP has my vote.

I'm now on Android but when I was on MS Windows I used to launch the video (audioless) with XBMC (yes XBMC back then) and then login with a Cygwin/SSH session to play music with the command line tool FFplay (from FFmpeg).
Not trivial to do on Android without rooting and all that techy stuff.

Somebody made that suggestion earlier here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...#pid586737 which is a generic solution.

One quick fix could be in the audio panel of the video. We currently can select the audio track (english, french, etc). Why not have the possibility to select an external audio file. In fact, I did wanted to do that before with some movies which had separate language audio tracks and it is still not possible today (right?).

Anyway, I say yes to this feature.

Maybe you did not read the linked post:

I like the idea too. One of the videos/audios have to be decoded in software since GPUs can only hardware decode a single video. But this is no problem for music or small SD videos (like door camera/baby monitor/video chat)
I think elupus was working on something like that (maybe https://github.com/elupus/xbmc/tree/masterclock_master) but he was missing lately.

I was just trying to consolidate the different requests for it...

I did, which is why it seems different to me. Multi monitor support while yes it would take a seperate engine to run two different files on two different monitors. Multi monitor support can also be other things as well. I wanted a straight forward request for my request. It just seems convoluted to put them together.

As Kodi has removed Karaoke in Jarvis, this won't work anymore: http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Play_music_...ound_video
Any suggestions on how to do this from here on out?

This here! This cannot be that hard to develop, right? Or maybe, set a playlist as the audio of the video file, then, set that as default for all media and BAM this thread from 2007 can finally be truly answered lol. It would be especially helpful for me if this became a thing because I have a brother who has mental health problems and is prone to psychosis...and one of his greatest coping skills are cartoons and music...If I could combine that for him for when he's tripping, that'd be pretty helpful for us lol.
