Video frame freezes audio continues on Fire TV 4k with 17 alpha and nightly
#1
Watching videos with the new alpha build and newer nightlys I am seeing my video frame freeze for a few seconds while the audio continues to play, eventually the video plays again. Sometimes it will only happen once or twice when I start the stream, other times it happens for extended periods of time. Seems like lower bandwidth videos and TV channels are more affected, but could just be a coincidence. Never experienced this with previous builds. Anyone else experiencing this issue? When the video starts playing again it is in sync with that audio.

No Debug Log no issue as shown in this post: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=234749
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

thanks, will take the advice of both. Will try the latest nightly when I get home today and if I'm still experiencing it will post full debug logs.

Martijn, new nightly was installed and experienced the same result. Please find my log posted below. As I have commented on this post, I believe Knocks issues and mine are related. Following his suggestion I disabled hardware acceleration and was able to alleviate the frame freeze I was experiencing, but this is obviously not an ideal solution.

looks more like a pvr issue (NextPVR), does non-pvr video playback have the same issue ?

Thanks for the feedback MrMC. I'm pretty sure that I was seeing the same thing with local content as well but will test that again today. If I am able to replicate the issue I will post a new log. What are you seeing that makes you think it is PVR related and second, why would changing the acceleration setting correct that behavior?

a) I see play playing pvr content and nothing else in log
b) pvr is handled 'special' and not all hw codecs handle them right. FFmpeg always does the right thing.

Frisch, you were quick to slap me on the wrist for "not having an issue" due to missing logs. I have now posed 2 while recreating the issue and you have gone into hiding Smile. I keep installing new nightly releases in the hopes that it is silently getting fixed but that's not the case. What can a user do to draw attention to a show stopping bug in an alpha build?

While I dont have a log, I also am experiencing the same problem you are on Nvidia Shield.

Thanks for the reply Madflava. Can you please get a log file attached to make sure it's the same issue. Also go into settings, player settings, video, and disable the 2 hardware acceleration options in there and then watch a video again. This seems to help my issue but then my box struggles with high bitrate or 265 content.

Another friendly reminder this issue still exists in the latest Alpha and newer nightlys. Sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for a mod or dev to ask me to test something for them to solve this issue. My PMs are always open Smile

Update: I tried the latest Alpha on my Fire tablet 7" $50 and it did not experience the freeze frame. I will try my other Android devices and see if it affects any others besides my 4k Fire tv.
