Installation error
#1
I was having a little issue with Kodi (Jarvis) so I decided to install a fresh copy. I uninstalled via the typical method, and upon attempting to reinstall was met with these errors:
(The "error opening file for writing" was consistent before each error, so in order to eliminate the redundant info, I skipped typing it every time.)

Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi\Kodi.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi\d3dcompiler-47.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi\iconv.dll

After I click "Ignore" on all of these files, the installation completes, but Kodi won't open. I'm running Windows 10.
Please advise and thank you in advance not only for the possibility of help, but for all the time spent answering all of our noob, lame questions.

Did you remove the app folder of Kodi before re-installing. Might help

Looks like a permission issue. Might be worth doing a google search about installing app with dailed writing permissions or try installing with admin privileges.

I not only deleted via uninstall method of control panel, I deleted the very first download and went through the registry deleting all references to Kodi. I've removed every reference to Kodi on my computer.

Should I remove everything from C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Kodi\Kodi.exe?

Sorry, I meant to say I'm having the same problem. Should I remove everything from C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Kodi\Kodi.exe and try again?

Re-try with a fresh start (check my sig) and ensure admin rights.

Solution for the future generations....

If you have "d3dcompiler-47.dll" or similar error during KODI install on Windows 10.

1. Find on the web "RemoveTakeOwnership.reg". (it will install "Take ownership" option in a Right click menu.
2. Right click on a folder where you downloaded KODI (Jarvis,Krypton...etc.) and chose "Take Ownership".
3. Right click on "kodi-17.3-Krypton.exe" and chose "Run as Administrator".

That sholud solve the error problem. Wink
