Newbie here so bear that in mind.

I have Kodi v17 alpha 3 running on Nvidia Shield, this is connected to my Denon AVR (DTS, True HD).

7.1 surround isn't working as expected. I can see on my receiver that PCM audio (2 channel) is the input from Kodi. My receiver is then converting this to DTS but it doesnt sound crisp at all and I dont get any sub. By comparison when I run Netflix on my Shield I am getting DTS input and everything is working as expected. I've played with every audio/video setting in Kodi but still have this issue. I've also installed SPMC and Kodi 16 and they all exhibit the same symptoms.

Any help?

Does the file you're playing have a DTS audio stream. Anyway, debug log (wiki)

This makes no sense. Netflix audio is either stereo or Dolby Digital Plus 5.1. It is not DTS.
