v16 Black screen at startup (Raspbian jessie on Rpi2)
#1
Hello everyone,
first of all, I love this app !

It worked some months ago and then... Smile

If I launch kodi (v15 or 16) with a gui, directly on the pi, a black screen last for minutes and a core dump is written.

  1. From command line, kodi-standalone produce the log file trying to launch three times. This message is output to the console :
    http://pastebin.com/5atk06m8
Kodi tries to launch 3 times without success.

  2. Debug log : http://paste.debian.net/791352/
  3. Version of Kodi: 15.2 Git:02e7013 or 16.1
  4. Distribution and version: Raspbian Jessie (debian 8) Linux %µù*ù*ù*ù 4.4.13-v7+ #894 SMP Mon Jun 13 13:13:27 BST 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux
  5. Using a RPi 2 with a Hdmi cable to my tv. Rpi set to 1Ghz with 256 for GPU
  6. Step to reproduce the problem:

    kodi-standalone (--debug)

This is what I tried :
    • 15.2 and 16.1 version with a "clean install" : apt-get remove kodi-* (which remove kodi and kodi-bin).
    • erase folders .kodi with different users.
    • update libcec1 to libcec3. (btw I don't know what CEC).
    • three different hdmi cables (it worked before so...).
    • Window mode -> full mode : Nothing happen http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=266149

It used to work with Debian 7 and I don't know if it worked with Debian 8.

I search the solution by my own without any success. I also follow some tutorials on how to avoid black screen exiting kodi.

Any ideas ?
Regards Smile

I have had a problem kind of like that. It turned out to be Linux choosing the wrong video resolution for my HDTV.

So, my try would be to set the correct resolution in Rasbian before launching Kodi. I know that Kodi also initially present me with a purple screen until I change the display from "Desktop" to "1920X1080i" or "1920X1080p".

When I tried to install Linux on any machine using the HDTV as a monitor I got black screen until I attached a VGA monitor, then set the resolution on the TV then set the TV to main Then restart with the VGA detached.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't have any VGA to connect my raspberry. I will find one to test this solution.

When I start kodi my tv display HDMI 1360x768 @ 60 Hz. Do I need to look further ? in /boot/config ? or in advancedsettings.xml ?
