I've got an old Sony rear projection TV that lacks an HDMI input, but has a DVI input. I am trying to get a Fire TV 1 with Kodi working with it using the optical audio output via a DAC. The problem is that whenever I hook up the DVI cable from the TV to the FTV's HDMI output, it stops outputting audio via the optical. If I hook up the HDMI to a TV that has a regular HDMI input, I get audio. I've tried 2 different DACs, so I don't think this is the problem. I also have tried every combination of audio system settings on the FTV and nothing seems to make a difference. It seems to be some kind of HDMI handshaking problem. I was wondering is anyone else has encountered this problem. If I can't get the optical to work, I suppose an HDMI audio extractor would work, and I do seem to remember someone on this forum recommending a specific device.
