AML *never* add support for old boxes in newer android builds. Or at least vendors never take the necessary steps for such a major update.
AML is currently cooking android 6.0 for their latest S912 SoC. I don't expect S905, for example, to ever see an official android 6 build...
How do Wetek manage to update their boxes to later version of Android OS than the one they were shipped?
