Kodi uses watched (boolean) and playcount (numeric) where every playcount value starting at 1 triggers watched=true.

May I vote for a change in TMM where "Mark selected ... as watched" changes to "Increase play counter" and both values will be written to the NFOs?

sorry for the late response

in tmm we do not use the playcount -we just set it in the NFO to 1 if the watched flag is being set.
and from the Kodi side the playcount gets only written into the NFO if you export the NFO from Kodi (Kodi does not update the NFO if you play the movie!)

beside of that I don't see any benefit - I see rather some problems if we implement that
