Information
I would like to share with you my catch on the Sony Android TV experience. The review is based on the recently released Marshmallow update:

Excellent review, which mirrored my experiences.
Gave up with using this as an android box with Kodi.
Netflix works well.
Tried to set this up with a HDD to record FTA TV, but next to useless. Went back to a PVR.
Using optical out allowed me to get rid of an optical switch I was using for other boxes .Foxtel,,Sony PVR,Minix.( My amp does not have HDMI)
Remote is useless for navigating with Android apps or browser.

I updated the above links to point to the new Marshmallow review. I decided to put it on a new page, leaving the Lollipop review untouched.

I encourage everybody who has already read my old review to also read through the new Marshmallow based review. It contains quite a lot of new information.

@wrxtasy,

you might want to update your link in the START HERE thread too.

The tuner on my 2016 Sony X9300D went AWOL recently.  I was almost sure it was hardware, like the tuner F1 fuse problem I had read about somewhere.  Nothing but a black screen anytime ANY tuner related (TV, guide, tuning) function was selected. I put a call into Sony and once it was apparent my only move was a factory reset I complied.  I expected nothing, but hey, it worked!  Tuner back up and running but of course I'd lost my apps.  But since it's recently out of warranty I rather relieved.

I read with interest your analysis of the standby behaviour.  One thing that drives me mental about this TV is the constant pounding it gives any USB attached HDD while supposedly in standby.  At times it spins the drive up and down every few minutes, and at other times hammers away at the drive for long periods. I've always had it connected to a remote power switch (Aldi) because this TV is in the bedroom and the HDD noise and flickering light wakes us up.  I'd love to know what the hell it's up to? I really don't trust this TV.  It has its own Google account and I don't let it roam my network any more than I can help e.g. I don't use DLNA.  Of course, the downside is the slow startup when we use it, but I'm glad to know I'm saving ~20W. Someone should take Sony to task over this because their stated "Power Consumption (Standby)" is only 0.5W.

And finally, what to what brings me here again today looking for answers... I had to install Kodi.  After running into performance issues the last time I tried with, I think v17, I installed (on my newly reset TV) Kodi 17.6.  Very nice look, but it still drops frames, freezes, generally plays up on a 4K 10bit HDR video that I know works well in 16.1 Jarvis.  So unfortunately I'll be going back to that unless someone has found a fix?

To receive meaningful assistance you will need to provide a full debug log.

The instructions are here... debug log (wiki)

If you are using the Basic Method, then ensure the following is applied...
1.Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging,
2.Restart Kodi
3.Replicate the problem.

If you are using the Advanced Method ensure you have correctly created and applied the advancedsettings.xml file.

In both instances, you should see the word DEBUG throughout the log.

Note: Full logs only. No partial or redacted logs
Do NOT post your logs directly into the forum. Always use a paste site like pastebin.com. Post the link to your pasted log in the forum
