17 Beta 2 UPNP Files Mode
#1
When using 17 beta 2, and connecting to a UPNP Lodi share (from my other Kodi installs) when I view "files" I can not see/view any files?

However if I go to "movies" or something that is in the library, I can view everything.

When I roll back to older versions of kodi, and do dactyl the same, all files, in files mode, are visible when viewed on a upnp kodi share.

Will this be fixed, surprised it hasn't been mentioned anywhere already?

Can you please upload a Debug Log?

I had to remove the install, sorry.

But You can absolutely recreate this by doing the following.

Kodi 15/16 (with drives added as videos/movies etc and scraped into library)
Test the share, by taking a kodi 15/16 install and "add" a upnp source (kodi share)
Navigate to the kodi share, and when prompted with "movies, music, tv, playlists, files" menu, select "files"
Select any folder and you can see the movie file, as well other files in the directory.

Now, upgrade (or use a clean kodi 17 as the client) and "add" source.
Select the same 15/16 upnp share.

And Follow the instructions above...

All will work "until" you actually enter a folder, at this point you are greeted with a blank view? The drives, the folders etc can all be seen but the files can not.

This only affects files mode, only on 17, when browsing an existing 15/16 kodi upnp share. Dropping back to 15/16 client resolves the issue and all files are visible as expected.

To make it eve more bizarre, "some" avi will indeed show (but I can't figure out the common factor)Huh
But absolulty NO mkv files etc will be displayed whatsoever.

I've gone back to 16 now as I can't use 17 at all due to this error, so sorry for not posting a debug, but a quick 5 mins should verify this if you follow the above process.

If I get time at the weekend, I'll reInstall and log it for you, but I've rolled back and with a new baby/work etc I'm so , I'm short for time.

Ps.
Will you guys be releasing an official portable version, I know portableapps forums were discussing it Smile
Fingers crossed Smile

Quick update...
I have (as mentioned above) a kodi 15.2 installation that sharesout to my other clients.

All my 15/16 clients work perfectly.

Updating now from 17b2 to 17b3 has caused a monumental issue. Previouly, some files were not visible when viewing a 15 upnp share from a 17 client... now ALL files can not be seen when viewing a 15 share from a 17 cleint.

So it looks like 17 is NOT compatible with shares that origonate from 15 upnp servers Sad

This is a huge issue for me, and (honestly) i am suprised that no one tested this? why are we makingkodi LESS compatible?

If you guys get a chance, please can someone take 5 mionutes and share a file from a 15 kodi install, via upnp, and then try playing the file from a 17 client by navigating to i in FILES mode.. such as:

Movies>Files>Kodi15>Video>Files>Movie>File

You will see that the file is NOT visible and therefore unplayable Sad

Hugly disappointing.

To recreate your problem one would need to have the exact same set up as you, far easier for you to supply a debug log (wiki) that is unless you have addons you do not want others to see.

You can have the same set up, the website has an option in the downloads section to download older versions.

My installs are 100% vanilla as mentoned.
And I rested on a clean install (vm) and I posted the steps required to recreate the issue) that's enough assistance in my option.

15.2 server (upnp)
17 client

Scrape a movie into 15 servers movie library.
Add upnp source into 17 client (15 server upnp)

On 17 client
Select movies
Movies>Files>"Kodi15 Server">Video Library>"Files">Movie>File.mkv

None of the files at the end of the chain will be visible/therefore are unusable.

17 CAN read the library scraped into the 15 server, but it CANT view files on a 15 share! Big big backcompat issue!

Really very simple to test, less than 1 minute of work (maximum) but still surprised that there are no one looking at this or running 15 servers? I mean for me it just means I stop at 15, but still, that's a seriously big incompatibility, I'm surprised they aren't advising users NOT to upgrade if you run a 15 server etc!

I have no addins on my client as they clients! They pull kiosk style from my server. I'm a very busy guy, I quickly test the latest release too see if it works, it still broken, so I delete and get on with my life but tell the devs of the issue.

If they want to check it (as part of their job) cool, if not, I have my job to do, and can live with 15. But at least I gave them visibility of it. If 60 seconds of following 1 line of test is too much, cool Smile

I don't have time to be kodi tester as I have a deadline for my own work, family, baby, level designs to complete etc.. but I provided them with a detailed description of the issue, provided replication instructions, gave examples, revisions, settings, file locations, navigations etc... if they can't click the buttons to test a reported bug with a detailed description, cool, but they must respect, neither can I!

it's not my job and everything works fine on 15, I can wait for a fix, if they are happy to roll out a borked install without testing reported bugs, cool, I advised them of the fault, I did my part and got back to my own job Smile

... but I appreciate the bitchy accusations implying I'm porn hub or pirate Undecided
