Samba 4
#1
Hello all

My current distro is requesting I upgrade my Samba server to Samba 4.2.11

I cannot find any detailed information about how to:
  • Migrate my server settings from 3.6->4.2
  • Is Kodi/OpenElec compatable with a Samba 4 server
  • How to setup Samba 4 for public (no password) shares and remain compatable with Kodi on Linux/Windows/OpenElec

Has anyone had any experience?

Thanks

Jason

Samba protocol and configuration file are compatible. Manuals are available across the web, so should be pretty straightforward, if not - please send me a pm.

basicly you need these 3.

security = user
guest ok = yes
map to guest = bad password

add these to disable cups log messages
load printers = no
printing = bsd
printcap name = /dev/null
disable spoolss = yes

as comment on the first part
map to guest = bad password
often
map to guest = bad user
is also used but if the user exist on Linux and a windows pc you get login popups.

Thanks all

I should be fine, I was more concerned if there would be a compatibility issue between the versions

I'll have to block out some time to do the upgrade - when nobody else is watching any shows
