You may be able to install LibreELEC Kodi on it and the thing will run like a Champ.

Please don't post links on the forum, particularity for "Fully loaded Pirate Boxes"

MXq boxes have a few different variants and specs, You might need to do some more digging. Check in the android settings menu in the about section does it give you a model number and software build version ?

If the model number is S85 in the android settings, it will be the Amlogic S805 based device possibly discussed at CNX website HERE

Kszaq has generic S805 LibreElec builds that may work for you, but you need to know exactly what hardware your running first to check compatibility. May even require you to crack open the box and check the sticker or labelling on the board to accurately identify the model.

Are there step by step guides out there for installing either openelec or libreelec? I have not worked with android OS before.

First of all, ask yourself do you really need Openelec or Libreelec? Do you have any problems with (clean) android version of Kodi?
Is everything working as it should (video, sound, menu,...)? If everything is working on android version then don't bother yourself and leave it be, until there is a real need for OE/LE.

But, if something is not working with your android version and there is a real need for OE/LE then don't read those generic (wiki) install instructions, don't waste your time.
Because, it's not only that you need a build for S805 box, but you need a specific S805 build for your hardware (like gsmtech said).

Good place to start is here:

Follow the instructions for a install on SD card. In that way if something goes wrong you just remove SD card and you you are back to android OS.

Looks like you may well be in luck, Ksaqz generic S805 builds, are described as being compatible with all MXQ branded boxes including the OTT MXQ which you appear to have.

But as bobrroney says, it might be that your needs are so basic that android might be Ok for you, also try installing the SPMC fork of kodi from google play it is a android optimised fork maintained by Koying the ex team kodi android dev. This build see many patches and fixed which are not in the mainline kodi build.

On the whole though the Kodi experience with LibreElec is much better than android. So try it out anyway, use the SD card build to test it out. if you dont like it just remove the SD card and you'll be back to
