Linux Audio output via two devices
#1
Hi,

my Linux box has two audio-devices, a on-board analog one and the graphics card (via HDMI). Due to some limitations of my connected amplifier I would like to use both, the analog and the HDMI audio channel.

Since in Kodi's settings I only can choose one output exclusively, my question: is there a possibility to configure Kodi/Ubuntu to use both, the analog and the HDMI audio output in parallel and without switching them manually?

Thanks!

Yes, you can use pulseaudio: http://kodi.wiki/view/PulseAudio#Combine...dual_audio

Funny, pulseaudio does not seem to be installed on my system and a "apt-get install pulseaudio" does not help...

Ubuntu uses it by default - so not sure what you did :-). If you are running Kodibuntu installation is blocked though.

That thread won't help him. As there is a whole lot of confusing stuff in there. So - if he reports back that he uses kodibuntu I will give him the two additional commands that are needed.

Hmmm... I'm looking for something similar on Windows. Is PulseAudio available cross platform?

This thread mainly discusses how to get rid of Pulseaudio, not how to install it!

And yes, I'm using Kodibuntu.

You only need two commands:

Code:
sudo rm /etc/apt/preferences.d/pulseaudio.pref
sudo rm /etc/apt/preferences.d/libasound2-plugins.pref

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio pavucontrol
sudo reboot

Afterwards you can continue as described in the wiki.

The windows port is not maintained that much. I think there are better solutions with windows specific tools. As I cannot suggest one, I don't name one :-)
