kodi 17.6 - cannot enable Allow remote control from applications on other systems
#1
I would like to use yatse to control kodi.

Using kodi 17.6 on ubuntu 18.04.
From a fresh install (I delete .kodi and launch kodi)

I go to settings, services, control
I enable
Allow remote control from applications to this system
and when enabling Allow remote control from applications on other systems
Kodi is showing a window

Rmote communication server
Failed to start
OK

It is by clicking OK that kodi crashes (have to kill -9)

here is kodi.log with debug log enabled.

I have the same issue.

I fixed my issue by unchecking all the options under Application Control:
Allow remote control from applications on this system
Allow remote control from applications on other systems

I kept only Allow remote control via HTTP

Sorry but this isn't a solution for me. I need to control KODI with my smartphone.

 Did you read post #2?
You need to supply a debug log showing the problem.

It is how I use it.
I control kodi with my phone using Yatse. And for that, and I don't know why, you don't need to these 2 options
  • Allow remote control from applications on this system
  • Allow remote control from applications on other systems

Thank You very much. This has been a problem for a couple years with me. My port was on 8080 already. So I did what you said and change my port to 8081 and it’s working fine. No pop-ups and my smart phone works great with Kodi Remote
