I use Kodi on an Amazon Fire Stick. Every time I get out of Kodi and go back in, Kodi downloads guide data from scratch. Is there a way that it can retain the guide data and only update it daily? It seems to take a lot of time and cpu when it's updating.

As far as I know there is no way to just have kodi download once a day. By default kodi does retain the data in a cache (unless you turned it off) - you should notice that if you stop kodi and then immediately start it again the guide refresh goes much faster because of the cached data. You can also reduce the download time by hiding channels you don't care about and reducing the number of days it grabs data for.
