I am using the latest version of Kodi V17.

How do I record a series? Do I need an add-on or some skin with the new version?

Does it only does it by time or keywords? I understand that the Broadcasters may change the time schedule at times.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If I select "guide" under "live tv" and right-click, then "add timer" it opens with settings including "type: repeating (guide). I'm not really using kodi for tv, but I did set up a show to test it out and it seems to be recording each instance. If the guide is out, the recording will probably be out, too, but I'm not sure how nextpvr deals with schedule changes. There's a setting to add padding time at the beginning and end.

You can do either. You can do guide based recordings which are based show titles etc (based on the EPG information you've feed to NextPVR), or manual recordings based on fixed times of day.
