v18 LibreELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 18.0)
(2019-01-26, 04:42)LongMan Wrote: Hi. Thanks for your continuing efforts? A quick question. Is The New Fire TV Remote supported in your builds?

Cheers,
LongMan

Not sure, have asked colleagues. It does appear to be compatible with older FireTV devices so... probably? Although the Alexa voice functionality won't work.

Thanks for checking. I am not actually interested in Alexa Voice. It's the volume, mute and power buttons that interest me. The original Fire TV Stick remote is currently unavailable, so I thought of trying this new one.

Just curious, if I wanted to donate one for testing, how would I do that?

Cheers,

Hi Milhouse, thanks for yor great work!

I'm using your version of LibreElec and TvHeadend in a Raspberry pi 3 Plus. I have some problem with the transcoding for SD (mpg2) and HD (h264) channel to h264.

I already bought the code and unlocked the mpg2 hardware acceleration.

If i use:
- "h264_omx: OpenMAX IL H.264 video encoder" the streaming of the channel doesn't even start (tvheadend process use 160% of CPU)
- "h264_v4l2m2m: V4L2 mem2mem H.264 encoder wrapper" the streaming start, but there only a black screen and the sound  (tvheadend process use 24-30% of CPU)

I think I'm missing somenting. I reed the full thread, but I don't understand if the hardware acceleration for h264 decoding/encoding is supported by LibreElec and TvHeadend.

Thanks for your time if you can help me to figure out the problem..

The tvheadend42 I'm supplying (and also from LE repo) is based on tvheadend 4.2 which doesn't support hardware encoding - for that you'll need tvheadend 4.3 which is not yet released and stable.

You can find test versions of 4.3 here: http://build.mycvh.de/

I'm not sure that the RPi3+ has enough horsepower to both transcode AND run kodi on the same device, so you may need to run tvheadend on a separate device from your Kodi client.

Thanks for the answer!

I tried the last version of tvheadend 4.3. Configured a "Codec Profile" with the only available video codec h264_omx. However the video transcoding still not work.

It seems that for raspberry Pi2/3+ I need the "gstreamer with omx" codec instead of h264_omx embed in ffmpeg for the hardware accelerated decoding/encoding (as I found here: https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/13...sage-33965)

So my question is: do you plan to port gstreamer as addon for LibreElec?

Thanks

Can you explain why you need to transcode? A pi (or other device) running kodi should be able to play any broadcast video formats directly.
Will the nightlies continue or do we have a small 'break' before the 19.0 nightlies?
They'll continue here until 19.0 development kicks off in earnest, then I'll close this thread and start a new one.

Hi popcornmix,

I need to transcode to be able to see tv channels outside home (trought VPN).

As you mentioned the Pi3+ running kodi has no issue to play channel using "pass" or "htsp". Also other kodi "client" in the same LAN are able to play the video broadcasted by the Pi3+.

The problem is that "pass" or "htsp" use 10 MB/s of bandwitch. That's good in the same LAN but a problem if I try to stream over mobile network or over slow ADSL.

If you use openvpn on the raspberry, you will not get 10MB/s because Raspberry is too weak for such tasks.
I get about 2,5Mb/s over openvpn.
