Linux LCD/TFT display supported by Kodi?
#1
Hi,

the box with my Kodi-hardware has a 14,5 x 3,5 cm wide window where a display can be mounted behind.

So my question: can anybody recommend a LCD or TFT display which is supported under Linux and where Kodi could display some useful and/or fancy data within?

Connection via USB would be the best.

Thanks!

Anything that is supported by LCDproc as there is a Kodi plugin to drive that.

The last LCDproc update is from 2012 - so are we really stuck with more than four years old hardwareHuh

Actually, the last update was 2015 -> https://sourceforge.net/projects/lcdproc/ In any case, it supports a ton of different drivers. I guess it all depends what display you want to use, but it can easily drive something like this for example https://www.amazon.com/HD44780-20x4-Whit...B005YTAHAU

There I can find a package which is from 2014...anyway, while digging through the list of LCDproc-supported devices, I find a lot of selfmade solutions, a lot of hardware which is no longer available or poor character displays with very less space for information to be shown.

It would be really a pity when this is all what is possible...

Getting LCD Proc to work with a second HDMI/VGA display rather than a simple 20x4 LCD character display is something I've looked at now and again. It does seem to be possible - using the right drivers (SVGA?) - but I've never persevered long enough to get it to work. (I've also tried - and had moderate success getting OLED character and low-res bitmap displays to work)

It would be great if Kodi supported using a second display as a status screen without needing LCD Proc in the way.
