TV stops randomly on Nvidia shield
#1
Hi guys, hoping you can help me out because we just recently cut the cord and my wife is going to kill me if I don't fix this. I had been running Kodi 16 on an Nvidia shield and a mibox for a month with no problems. Thanksgiving night while trying to watch football the shield started doing this thing where it stops and returns to the channel guide when watching live TV or recorded TV. The timing seems random. Sometimes it will go hours and sometimes only 20 minutes. I'm running server wmc 1.0.0.62 build 1244 on a Windows 7 pro machine on a gigabit wired network. Using an HD home run connect. This problem seems isolated to the shield. I have not seen the mibox do this. This happened at 13:56 today while watching TV. Below are the logs. Thanks in advance!

Please remove all http://kodi.wiki/view/Official:Forum_rul...ed_add-ons and repositories from your installation, replicate your issue with a "clean" system that does not violate our forum rules and then post a link to your fresh debug log.

Then we can offer you support.

The serverwmc log is showing no problems, it stops the live stream because it receives a 'closeStream' command from the shield kodi. I'm not good at understanding what I see in the kodi log, but it is showing problems reading a stream buffer right before it closes the stream. Have you fiddled with the settings in kodi on the shield? If so, maybe try resetting them to the defaults.

No, this was with a fresh Kodi install. I tried turning off hardware acceleration in Kodi, but that doesn't work well at all. I agree that it seems to originate on the Kodi side. I have no clue what's causing it. Hoping someone has an idea!

Then maybe the thing to do is to change the buffer size in the kodi-shield settings.

Still no good. I changed the buffer size based on the shield's 3gb of ram and played live TV for about 2.5hrs when it stopped and returned to the channel guide. Any other ideas?

Not really. Since its specific to the nv shield all I can think is to start googling that and kodi. But if it only happens on the shield with serverwmc's live-tv streams you probably won't find anything. At least in this forum, its the first I have heard of it.

Your tuner supports DLNA mode, so you could experiment with that for live streams (see LiveTV tab). Requires a restart of kodi after making the change.

So far so good with the dlna setting turned on. Ran for 3.5hrs before I had to stop it myself. We might be on to something. Just curious, what is the downside (if any) to running it through dlna like this? Thanks for your help.

Interesting. Time shift is lacking when kodi uses dlna. You can't pause for as long time, and FF and RW are limited. Also you can't choose to record what you are watching by hitting the record button in kodi.

Time shift is kind of a deal breaker for me. I did some more searching and stumbled on a possible solution. Removing the network share I had set up in the Android OS seems to solve the problem. Here's the post I found:

I was able to discover the solution to this issue.

I had my shared mounted from the Android OS storage setting. When the shares were mounted from Android the above issues would occur. Since unmounting my computer / shares from Android, kodi now works flawlessly again.

Hope this helps, good luck
