How to connect 4 bay hard drive enclosure to an Android TV box?
#1
Hi,
I have a "TX8" TV box running Android 6 Marshmallow with Amlogic S912 CPU and as media I have two hard drives enclosures Pro Mediasonic each holding 4 hard drives with media 2TB each in EXT4 format.
These media drives have been used with my old HTPC running Kodi under linux and LibreELEC (separate partitions) and now I wish to use them with the new Android box but Android system does NOT recognize the drives. I purchased two apps/drivers that claim to recognize any format including the EXT4 but do not work.
How I could successfully connect and use these hard drives?

Here is the link with the Android box I have:

No good news with this combo unfortunately....

I would say you are going to need Firmware support to get this working on a AMLogic Android box, and with a unsupported AML S912 that remains dubious at best.
You may find luck at the Freaktab Website:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-supp...ayers/s912

Otherwise Plug the Mediasonic into a Networked router that has a file server built into it if you can.

Others have had issues AMLogic devices and the Mediasonic HDD enclosures as well:

The other problem I think you will encounter is AMLogic Android will not fully power down the AMLogic box, so the directly connected Hard Drive enclosure will not sleep and remain running 24/7

If it were me personally I would seriously consider sending the TX8 / S912 back because AMLogic Marshmallow Firmware and the S912 is the buggiest combo on the market at the moment.
Harddrive support is very likely the start of your worries. Particularly when it comes to Kodi compatibility. A DIY box only the S912's.

Thanks a lot for the extremely useful info bud!
Unfortunately there is no way to send this box back. I bought it in the light of playing 4K and 3D content and from various readings, the S912 seems to be a little better on these specific tasks than S905, other than that there is no difference, not to mention what a bunch of liars are AMLogic.
I thought that it is all related to the Android OS rather than the CPU, probably the kernel developed for it.
I know I have another option too: to put all drives to a NAS and access it from there, I am pretty sure that it will work but to build the NAS is not too cheap.

However, as a further note, it is very disappointing to see that an OS based on Linux (referring to the famous Android) found at version 6 can not read by default multiple EXT4 formated drives, format that it is specific to Linux. I am patient but for some reason I have a feeling that I am using something like Windows95 or 98 with so many limitations.

The big problem is the cheap Ass Android box sellers just manufacturer these boxes, flash whatever AML Android Software Development Kit is available at the time and then promote the Sh1t out of these devices with all sorts of continous Discount sales and promises to sucker in buyers with fancy tech specs.

Bleeding edge AMLogic Android Devices are always rushed to market and chock full of bugs. We see it all the time.

Its squarely the sellers fault and partly the buyer for being fooled by such dubious marketing tactics.
This cycle repeats itself with each new Chipset release and a whole new wave of unsuspecting buyers are suckered in all over again.

A AML S905(X) running LibreELEC Kodi Jarvis slaughters buggy AMLogic Android boxes so far as working Kodi features are concerned.
These are becoming real popular.

External connected peripherals support will never be as good with AMLogic boxes due to running a relatively old v3.1x Linux Kernel compared to Intel and RPi devices.

Just chalk this S912 purchase down to experience, maybe resell it.
We all have purchased a dud box or two before finding out which are the popular, supported Kodi devices, here on the Kodi forums. Wink
