Has anyone tried cheap remotes from Dealextreme/aliexpress etc that are good?

Any of these for instance:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/FM4-2-4G...42570.html
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/FM4-Magi...35572.html

They LOOK nice and have the right amount of buttons for my needs, but what is the quality like on these kind of remotes?

For that price i would get both to have a replacement when one breaks. The remote from the second link does have decent amount of feedback so judge by yourself.

I'd say neither has enough buttons for kodi. No stop, play or pause for a start. No spare buttons for functions like subtitles (which I use all the time).
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

I am using them on my pi and they are very nice. Similar to apple ones in the old days. You will need to modify keyboard.xml. There is my post with codes http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=220378
I would buy this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-FM4-2-4GHz-W...SwLF1X4gw5 it is similar to lone that you have listed but the power button sends rf first.

Good point. At that price I could probably try a few different ones, though they're probably made at the same factory.

Pause/play can be used by the center/select key. Subtitles I just use the "select" key to choose them when needed. I don't need that many buttons really. What I'm more interested in is the build quality of these types of remotes.

Very nice! I don't need a power button really, but thanks for the tip. I've really been looking for something like this http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2279307
