[SOLVED]Hardware Accelerated and Software Rendering CPU Usage Are Same (v18)
#1
kodi 18.0-alpha1 git:20170105-fac5a22
CPU Usage with VAAPI and VDPAU disabled is the same (~35%/core) as either of them enabled.
VA, VD Disabled: http://pastebin.com/RAGXy7nG
VA Only Enabled: http://pastebin.com/FTp4153F
VD Only Enabled: http://pastebin.com/UTtmKQ22

Hardware acceleration in general works as shown through the usage when playing a video under VLC (~2%/core).

VDPAU won't work for your setup and sw acceleration is used

There real problem is: You have specified Deinterlace as your deinterlacing algorithm. That means a CPU intensive YADIF is performed. While playing that video switch the Deinterlacing-Method to: VAAPI-MCDI and save for all files.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Ah fritsch, good call about the deinterlace.
I'm about to look into it, but not something I would have caught myself.

I was curious about deinterlace because I didn't see any option in v18 gui, HOWEVER I did a restore for the .kodi directory that was 1 year old (don't ask about the fubar situation I'm in) so the setting was brought in from back then.
If there is NO change after changing the config manually, I'll wipe the dir and start from scratch, and expect that'll fix things. If not, I'll be back.. Wink

it's a per video setting. You find it during playback.

Ah yes. I think the last time I ever set it, it was under the main Settings. This "new" location is faster to access.
AND, it is perfect now. Even the last "bug" (this was no bug, just my failure) is now fixed in this git release.
