intel x5-Z8350 enough for h265 10bit?

Hallo all,

it's time for me to upgrade my kodi box, and I found this:
http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_562952.html

I will use it for 1080p videos on a 1080p monitor, but sometimes I have some hevc 10bit videos to play back.
Now my only doubt about that x5-Z8350 with the intel hd 400 gpu is if it will be enough to play back hevc 10bit videos. Does someone know?

Thanks

I don't believe so no.

I can play them back on an AMD Kabini though, so you never know. Do they require that much CPU at 1080p? Not sure if it's doing it in the gpu or not, but it shouldn't be any faster than your z8350

The Atom x5-Z8350 with Cherry Trail Graphics can only Hardware decode 8bit HEVC.

10bit HEVC will be Software decoded - and that will need feedback from users what the bitrate limit is. It will still be a risk you will run into some 10bit HEVC content that will not Software decode due CPU constraints.

Atom x5-Z8350 isn't powerful enough for HEVC... I recall test files struggling to play on a Beelink BT3 I tested last year. This review of a similar box (Z8300), Tronsmart Ara X5, confirms findings.

If you do not need inbuilt WiFi - a GigaE / eMMC equipped - ODROID-C2 running LibreELEC will run rings around the Intel Cherry Trails for up to 4K 8/10bit HEVC hardware decoding. CSR 4.0 USB Bluetooth can be added for around $3

Plus you get comprehensive HDMI-CEC control as well Smile
