For some unknown reason sometimes when I play a movie/video

the audio would start skipping/echoing
like the way a broken record sounds

Only way to fix this is to pause or stop the video then press play and the video/movie would then play the audio properly again.

Give trying setting your audio to use WASAPI instead of directsound. This helped me with that same issue. I suspect directsound is doing some extra processing that is causing the skips.

This will have a side effect. As KODI will then basically take over exclusive audio for the system. So keep that in mind if audio seems to 'go away' with other applications while KODI is running.
