The IP, username and password are all correct. I can connect to sftp from terminal just fine. It's just Kodi that does not want to.
What could be wrong here?

There is another thread about sftp failing on 17, although it works for me.

Why use it though?

I use sftp because it is easy, convenient and safe, regardless I'm on on LAN or over the internet.

I made some further discovery.

Adding SFTP share in Kodi works, but ONLY if there is a key present in the system. It completely ignores the password.
This is NOT the server's fault, because the server accepts password logins.

And this behaviour is in fact also in Kodi 16.

Looks like regression.

When I say "it works for me" I remembered that I do have key based auth set up on my server, and the client I was accessing from. So I am perhaps a red herring!

This is a bizarre thread.... I have been using password authentication with ssh/sftp for ages and it was solid. ssh/sftp shares no longer work for me with Kodi 17, using either password authentication or key based.

Both password and key based authentication work perfectly when accessing the operating system directly.

I have been strugling with this for many years. Its weird because sometimes this works and sometimes no. On my personal windows 10 pc its imposible, but then I try it on another pc with windows 7 and it works, the same for a mac.

So where is the problem? In the server (raspberry)? or in the clients (ports? settings?)

Fo my this is the last detail that would make KODI just PERFECT

Just want to add something really strange. When I open Kodi using my wifi internet (outside of my home) I have the problem:

But then I try sharing internet from my phone to my laptop and IT WORKS!!!

This is extremely weird. I test a few times, sharing internet from my phone work perfect every time, with my wifi connection the Password present error....

Hi,

I've recently updated my android tv box to 17. I have exactly the same pbm. Authenticated SFTP source to my LAN server (debian) worked fine before the update...

Since the update: i get exactly this error in logs:
"password present but server does not support authentication"

And no change was made on the SFTP server.

Any help would be appreciated :-)

BTW: thanks to the kodi-team, great project, great features...
