The new version of Kodi will not open at all for me. I tried using the manual run program, I tried clicking on the exe in the folder itself. I tried uninstalling kodi, restarting my computer, and even looking for the registry (unfortunately I am not knowledgeable enough to find anything to do with the registry) If there is anything else you need from me, please let me know; I will try to find the info. Oh yeah, and I tried the kodi website download vs the windows app store download with the same results.

Go to %AppData%\Kodi\userdata\Database in the Explorer and delete Addons27.db.
Kodi should start now.

THANK YOU REKI! No condescending techspeak pufferylike I've had to plow through in this forum. Just the facts- and it worked!!

If you downloaded Kodi from this site, then you will put the file here... All those directories should already be on your computer, you just need to put the advancedsettings.xml file in there.

C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\advancedsettings.xml

Once you have done that, try and start Kodi.

After it starts and shuts down, you then need to go to...

C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\

In there you will see a file named "Kodi.log"

Open it with notepad.

Copy all the contents of the file

Then go to https://pastebin.com/ and paste the contents of the file into the New Paste box

Press "Create New Paste"

When the screen refreshes with your new paste, copy the address in the address bar and paste it in a message here.

This helped for me but I stopped at the
C:\Users\Your User Name/\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\ Deleted all the files restarted and then re installed Kodi and now works a treat!!!!

THANKYOU!!!!! I was going insane.....

I literally have no idea what you are talking about. Where would I even begin to find this appdata thing. I saw someone suggest this previously and could not find it. Thank you for the reply and also in advance.

EDIT: oh nevermind found it. thanks!

One more for the gipper, You need to turn on logging in settings>system>logging

Using cut & paste techniques, copy the entire log to www.pastebin.com and link that URL back to this thread.

Go to %AppData%\Kodi\userdata\Database in the Explorer and delete Addons27.db.
Kodi should start now.

I am having the same issue as the others, kodi won't open; I press the icon, the select tool spins for a sec, then nothing. Here is my information to the best of my ability:

1. Version of Kodi. Note - "Latest" is NOT a version of ANYTHING! (See below): 17.1
2. Windows Version + Service Pack version (Vista SP1 / Windows 8.1 update 1 / etc.) Windows 10 Enterprise
3. CPU/Architecture (make/model and eg. 32 or 64 bit.) Intel Celeron CPU N2940 64-bit
4. RAM amount (2 GB, 512MB etc.) 4GB
5. Detailed Instructions to reproduce the Problem (The more specific the better.) I press the kodi icon, the select tool spins for a sec, then nothing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I even tried the version from the Windows app store. Same results
6. Details of all devices relevant to the problem. My Lenovo ThinkPad laptop
7. FULL Debug Log (see Section 3 below.) This is always useful even if the problem isn't actually captured as it may provide other clues and system information. There is no file named kodi.log in that file location. There are multiple files named kodi_crashlog-17.1 Git_then a bunch of numbers.dmp. a SNIPIT screenshot of the folder is attached. If you would like the contents of one of the listed files, please let me know and I will be happy to share.

Alrighty! It won't let me upload an image from computer after all, soooo..... not sure what to do about that.

BTW, xbmclogs.com is not working, fyi.

Thank you tremendously!

@karallen -- thank you so much for your instruction. I did as directed, created the advancedsettings.xml file in the correct location, tried to open kodi, still got a spinning pointer but no kodi. I then went looking for the kodi.log file but it still does not exist. These are the files and folders in my kodi folder:
  • addons folder
  • cache folder
  • media folder
  • system folder
  • userdata folder
  • kodi text file
  • kodi.old text file
  • kodi_crashlog-17.1 Git_20170320-fc1619b-20170414-213743.dmp
  • (NOTE: there are several more of those kodi_crashlog-17.1 Git DMP files, just with the last 6-9 digits different)
  • kodi_stacktrace-17.1 Git_20170320-fc1619b-20170414-213743 text document
  • (NOTE: there are several more of these kodi_stacktrace files with different final numbers)

I am happy to provide any further information or details, just let me know what I should do or what I can provide next. Thanks!
