Win Kodi 17.1 crashes on startup - Windows 10
#1
Hi,

I'm having problems to use this Kodi Version: Everytime when I try to start the program (double-click on program icon), the app crashes. The initial Screen appears (Black and Grey with Kodi logo in Red details) followed by the error message below.

Error Message: Kodi has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

There is no way to see the main window, or adjust something on Settings Menu. I had to enable debug manually, creating the file advancedsettings.xml inside Kodi Userdata Folder.

The next thing I would do would be to try running kodi with a clean profile. To do this, rename your existing profile %appdata%\kodi to something else (eg. %appdata%\kodi.old) and run kodi.

If it does not crash, the problem is somewhere in your settings or addons. If it does, then the issue is elsewhere.

If you find that a clean profile fixes the crash, I'd just start over again and configure the new, clean profile rather than put too much time into finding the exact culprit.

Looking at the specs of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 and it's very close to my Radeon, which is starting to see the wall for Kodi usability and I'm left with aq beta driver and no legacy support. What the drivers look like http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/66884 you might want to see if you have the best for this task. This mention "The only version that runs on my PC is 15.2 Isengard." is the clue that something has stumbled on the movement to anything above 15.2 with uses Direct X9 while 16+ has migrated to DirectX 11 routines. I note that some users with this card are using OpenElec with some sucess.

I am getting the crash on startup but ONLY IF I have a VPN in use for internet access. I use PIA. If I disable PIA then Kodi 17.1 works normally on Win 10 after a clean install.

I guess this is a question for your VPN support.
