Yes ,this is still an issue and affects all platforms. Not only that but, at last testing, it's been carried over to v18.

Could an admin please move this into a more general Section? It's NOT a Windows-only problem, it happens here on Ubuntu and LibreElec as well (and annoys the f*** out of me)...

This is truly horrible. Why are the devs working on whatever the hell is going in new versions instead of fixing this most basic and extremely annoying bug that has been going on forever?

It only seems to affect some users. I never have that issue, no matter what skin I am using. Currently on v17.5, Win10 and Transparency! skin.
Also, if you took the time to read the posts a couple above yours, you would be aware that it is fixed in v18.

Normally it should be fixed for Kodi 18 but is still a bug (and won't be fixed anymore) for Kodi 17.x

This issue is gone now and everything works perfectly. I did a clean install on both rpi3's after this post yesterday. Loaded my backup and the play next is set to movies and tv shows.
Under it is the default settings, except for Display 4:3 is set to stretch 16:9
It is the same settings as before so it must have been something wrong with the last installation.

Go to: Settings, Media, Video, Select first unwatched... = Always
Also, while setting Watched for Movies, make sure you disable the filter for showing only Unwatched -- otherwise it always resets to the first item in the list (annoying, somewhat understandable, but not impossible to work around).
