Lirc, how do i get it working?
#16
I set lirc up today and thought it was pretty straight forward after abit of research. Hardest part was getting the pad part of the iMon remote to work for directions. After I found a patch for that it was easy.

From what I can see it seems that you've built it wrong?
or have you exported home?
Could you do a complete removal of your XBMC folder and do exactly this:
1. cd
to get you to home
2. svn checkout https://xbmc.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot...xport/XBMC
3. cd XBMC
4. ./build.sh
5. BUILD/XboxMediaCenter
And report the log once again. But use http://pastebin.com/ and take the whole log. Perhaps even copy build log.

You might need to repeat #4 twice if it says it's the first time.

Edit: Don't forget to backup your Lircmap now Smile

That worked! It's now reading from the proper UserData.

You want the device name to be set to the name field in lircd.conf. This is the same name that is shown when you hit buttons while running irw.

This work OK, but some buttons DO NOT work, and the PAD is, just like you said, the biggest problem. It works, but not as good as a normal button. I.e, there is big problems pushing in the same direction two or more times in a row.

I also wonder if there isn't anyone who has a very good Lircmap.xml, configuered for the iMon Pad Remote, working with XBMC's need?

touser Wrote:Hello everyone, i have lirc running with a snapstream firefly remote. Using the lircd.conf available here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Instal...nf.firefly Running irw shows that the remote is working properly. I have no idea what to do next. Editing the Lircmap.xml in BUILD/UserData and changing the remote device name to either "atiusb" or "lirc_atiusb" does nothing. I have been searching the forums and google for hours with no luck. Do i also have to edit the keymap.xml? Do i have to create another file i dont know about? Thanks for any help!

Hi I have a Media Center Remote usb 2 - I set it up this morning and didn't have to touch anything - I tried it tonight it worked right out of the box, Umm maybe see this article it's more for Media Center Remote with Ubuntu and Mythtv but there are links etc for other Lirc pages.

The windows MCE remote is best supported and works great out of the box.

Using the instructions listed above in the quote!

I can describe how I got my Hauppage PVR-150 remote to work.

Figure out your remote name with "irw"
Code:
mythtv@HTPC:~/xbmc/XBMC/ irw
0000000000001794 00 Up Hauppauge_350
0000000000001794 01 Up Hauppauge_350

My remote name is "Hauppauge_350"
From lirc.conf's "Hauppauge_350" section I get these codes:
Code:
begin codes
          Go                       0x00000000000017BB
          Power                    0x00000000000017BD

          1                        0x0000000000001781

          Green                    0x00000000000017AE
          Yellow                   0x00000000000017B8
          Blue                     0x00000000000017A9
      end codes

Then I create a new section in "Lircmap.xml"
I copied another remote section and changed it.
Code:
<remote device="Hauppauge_350">
        <pause>Pause</pause>
        <stop>Stop</stop>
        <forward>Forward</forward>
        <reverse>Rewind</reverse>
        <left>Left</left>
        <right>Right</right>
        <up>Up</up>
        <down>Down</down>
        <select>OK</select>
        <pageplus>Ch+</pageplus>
        <pageminus>Ch-</pageminus>
        <back>Back/Exit</back>
        <menu>PreviousMenu</menu>
        <play>Play</play>
        <info>Menu/i</info>
        <skipplus>SkipForward</skipplus>
        <skipminus>Replay/SkipBackward</skipminus>
        <display>Teletext</display>
        <start>Go</start>
        <record>Record</record>
        <volumeplus>Vol+</volumeplus>
        <volumeminus>Vol-</volumeminus>
        <mute>Mute</mute>
        <power>Power</power>
        <myvideo>Videos</myvideo>
        <mymusic>Music</mymusic>
        <mypictures>Pictures</mypictures>
        <mytv>TV</mytv>
        <one>One</one>
        <two>Two</two>
        <three>Three</three>
        <four>Four</four>
        <five>Five</five>
        <six>Six</six>
        <seven>Seven</seven>
        <eight>Eight</eight>
        <nine>Nine</nine>
        <zero>Zero</zero>
        <delete>Red</delete>
        <mymusic>Green</mymusic>
        <mypictures>Yellow</mypictures>
        <myvideo>Blue</myvideo>
    </remote>

I had to change stuff to match the codes in lirc.conf
Like "VolUp" is "Vol+" for my remote.

Remember that the name is case sensitive!
I created a section for "hauppage_350" first, that doesn't work!

I hope this can help you.

I dont really remember but im pretty sure it was this one http://brakemeier.de/electronics/vdr/lirc-imon.html. ended up getting it working perfect. The directions were sensitive but you quickly get used to that.

I actually got rid of the imon pad because it wouldnt work with my universal remote as it has some weird protocol.

Next I tried my dvico dual digital 4 remote which worked perfect except it wouldnt accept any other remotes, limiting me to 45 buttons.

Moved to the hauppauge pvr-150 remote and receiver and got it working with my universal remote (although it froze slightly every 4th or 5th keypress).

So now I await my usb-uirt in the mail which should be a fair bit more versatile as it will be able to send/receive with my urc mrf-350 and mx-810.

FWIW, ZipZoomFly has MCE remotes\receiver for $23 - OEM though and must purchase something like a cheap mouse to go with Wink These are PnP with Lirc.

I'm using Microsoft remotes/receiver also, works very smooth with XBMC. However I don't know how to make Microsoft remote keyboard work. BLKMGK, do you happen to have Microsoft remote to sleep and wake up your PC?

I'm sorry, not putting my machine to sleep. I'm using a Harmony 360 remote actually with the MCE receiver having learned the codes from the Microsoft remote. there's at least one thread here where someone managed to get the MCE keyboard working but I never got far with it - would love to though. for now I use VNC off a laptop to control things when not using the remote.

Got my usb-uirt in the mail only to discover the gutsy kernel has a bug in it which stops the usb-uirt from working. I can recompile the kernel or something but now I guess I will just wait until Hardy is the developers os.

My iMon doesnt work like I want, and I have to config all my buttoms in XBMC and tell what the name in the Lirc-config is, and I dont know what all the functions name in XBMC is..

So, now I wonder, if I buy this:
http://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010077819.aspx
Will it work from start then?

Is that a good choice?
