ubuntu 17.04 repository vs team kodi ppa?
#1
Hello folks. Just a few lil question.
I saw now that on the official ubuntu repo there is a build of kodi 17.1 marked with the same kodi from debian logo.
It is built on libav instead ffmpeg like the Debian one?
Any other known diff between this two releases?

Thanks all.

Built on libav instead of ffmpeg is enough to tell me 'avoid'.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

Did they ban google in the place you live?
http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/kodi-bin
You can see the dependencies there.

No, no libav, debian and thus ubuntu switched back from libav to orignal ffmpeg.
However I would stay away from debian/ubuntu packaged Kodi.
First because they use vanilla unpatched ffmpeg and Kodi needs it's own specially patched version,
second because of the way kodi package is built by distro mantainers AFAIK Kodi devs refuse to support distro packages.

Use Kodi from team-kodi ppa http://kodi.wiki/view/Official_Ubuntu_PPA , if you already use zesty you may have to wait until there is zesty support in the ppa.
