Weird screen

I really wonder if I am the only one who gets a screen like this occasionally:
Image
The "colours" in this pic may vary but the pattern is always the same.

The picture stays like this forever, but the audio is still running. I have seen
this only while watching movies, never while browsing in the internet.
(I use this pc mostly for xbmc)

I don't know if this is a xbmc bug or maybe a hardware failure.
Restarting KDE does not help in this case, i need to hard reset the computer.

I think this is related to the powersaving features.

I remember seeing it before, but I haven't used KDE in about 3 years.

If you can't get out of it, then there will be problems elsewhere. A graphics card configured incorrectly? What distro/version of linux are you running? When did you last update your kernel/drivers?

I've had a bit more of a look into this.

This describes the problem I had, but with your symptoms (i.e. the screen didn't go black, it just all funny patterned).

I don't know if ctrl+alt+backspace worked for you. It isn't the first thing I think of to try when something goes wrong, I always try and ctrl+alt+F1. Also, back when it was happening to me, I was using a version of mandrake, probably 9 or 10.

Thank you very much for your research!
I have turned out the Power settings right now so lets hope it doesnt happen again.. Smile
STRG-ALT-BACKSPACE was also not working btw.

I configured the nvidia graphic card with envy and I am running kubuntu 7.10 with the newest kernel.
