New Kodi 18 features on (Android) Nvidia Shield TV

Not sure why this video wasn't listed here before (or maybe I missed it), and it wasn't posted on the main news sections of Kodi, but whatever.

Check out this video (from Nate of the Kodi Team)...

When you use Kodi 18 on an Android TV device like the NVIDIA Shield, you can now search your Kodi library from Android, see Kodi recommendations on the Android TV homescreen, and even use voice input directly inside Kodi itself. The future!

Because Kodi v18 is still in Alpha and this is still a WIP, plus this type of news is something that will end up in blog post.

But it was tweeted about: https://twitter.com/KodiTV/status/856903050077904896

Uh, not to be rude, but they post about Alpha and Beta builds in the news section all the time.

To bad I don't use Twitter for my Kodi news (I'm old school and still prefer to read about cool new stuff in forums). Wink

Yes, but that is usually after a certain point in development, not just specifically because a single feature has been added to one platform.

Also, it's only been something that been available for less than 3 days now and as I said it's still a WIP.

All true, still think it should have been at least listed here in this forum. Just one more feature in Kodi 18 (after RetroPlayer), that I'm very excited about.

I kinda wish there was a way to run both Krypton and Leia next to each other on Android (my Nvidia Shield to be exact).

That way we could use Krypton for our daily stuff and Leia to "play around" with.

Just install @Koying's - SPMC (Kodi Jarvis) from the Playstore. It will not interfere with Kodi Krypton.

SPMC has had all this "New" Leanback Android TV Voice searching implemented already for quite a while now. Smile
It's a Highly optimised Kodi Jarvis for Android TV, details.....

In fact it was Koying himself that added this Voice searching to Kodi Leia recently:

I am aware of SPMC, but Kodi 17.1 works a bit better for me at the moment on the Shield.

Anyway, it was just a suggestion to have Kodi with two difference package names: one for testing and one for actual releases (and maybe RC's).

In fact SPMC does this as well. The beta versions that you have to download and install manually have a different package name than the Play Store version.
