v19 LibreELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 19.0)
(2019-06-24, 15:34)galopogos Wrote: Is it possible to directly upgrade the firmware of the pi 3b to the raspberry pi 4 once it’s available ? Thanks

There is the existing RPi/RPi2 firmware (start_x.elf/fixup_x.dat from the upstream repository) and also new firmware for RPi4 (start4x.elf/fixup4x.dat), but the upstream code has only just merged and hopefully there won't be any impact on existing RPi/RPi2 firmwares. I would not recommend booting an RPi3 with RPi4 firmware at this time.

(2019-06-24, 20:51)dantist Wrote: I don't know if the devs can answer this yet, but which Raspberry Pi 4 would recommend for future LibreELEC releases? 1,2 or 4GB RAM?

Already answered in this thread (at the moment, it's probably 2GB).

EVERYONE: Can you please move the discussion about RPi4 "will it/won't it/can it" into relevant threads, as such discussion is OT for this thread (which is meant for reporting bugs about RPi0/RPi1/RPi2/RPi3 hardware). Eventually we will want RPi4 bugs reported here, but not yet! Thanks!

Silly question the rpi2 build wont work on a rpi4 even though it has the latest kernel etc?
I copied it across with .nocompat touched

No, the RPi2 build will not work at all on the RPi4.

The RPi4 firmware is backwardly compatible with older RPi models, but the RPi0/1/2/3/3+ firmware doesn't know anything about the RPi4 hardware. Also, support for the RPi4 hardware hasn't yet been pushed to the latest 5.1.y kernel which is why the current LibreELEC 9.2 RPi4 release is based on the 4.19.y LTS kernel (this is the current actively maintained & developed Raspberry Pi Foundation kernel used for Raspbian).

Given the above, the current RPi4 build should boot on RPi3/RPi3+ (Cortex-A53) hardware. It might boot on RPi2 (Cortex-A7) hardware - I haven't actually tried that...

The RPi4 build is currently optimized for Cortex-A53 - there's a gdb bug which is preventing optimisation for Cortex-A72.

Is this safe or do I need to work up to this much of a jump in versions.... Image

You may have some addons that could be marked as broken after installing the new #0626 version, but other than that it should be fine.

Cool. That's what I figured... So far so good. Plex is having issues playing videos but I'm guessing it's something else.

Try the two builds in this post and see if Plex is any better/worse/same.
