I get the top and bottom panels as well as the gold color Xbmc nav bar, just can't get a full screen like Mplayer, Movie player, Totem, etc.

Either settings -> appearance -> screen -> resolution -> fullscreen
or simply the \ key (above enter on keyboard)
and make sure you have disabled compiz

I have to disable compiz? I will try the full screen, I have it set for 1080i 16:9 I believe in that area. Mpalyer and Movie player work full screen with compiz enabled, so I hope that is not the case.
