Watching TV: XBMC as DVBViewer replacement?
#1
Hi!

I just stumbled over XBMC on my search for the perfect media center - the all-in-one solution I ever searched for :-)

XBMC looks terrific, the only thing I am wondering about is what TV cards are supported and if I can use it instead of DVBViewer to watch TV.
If so, is there also EPG support?

Thanks!

We are currently in development of an native XBMC GUI interface that will when complete fully work as a (unified) PVR front-end, however it is still in early development and is not yet part of the main branch of XBMC, but if you which you can read more about that endeavor here:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=GSoC_-_Unified_PVR_Frontend

XBMC does however already have a built-in MythTV client (that is also in early development) which lets you playback pre-recorded video files from a MythTV backend (without any PVR control), see:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=2297

There is also a basic python script addon for XBMC available that let you fully control your MythTV backend, with an EPG and all:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbmcmythtv/

So while the short answer is; yes it is possible, the long answer is still that the upcoming native PVR front-end and API side in XBMC is not quite 'production' ready yet.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.
