XBMC for Mac not able to handle special Unicode characters
#1
hi all.
i have been using this program for a couple of hours and it looks very interesting.

the problem is that i cannot play some of my music because the filenames contain characters in my language (faroese) like á, ð, ý and others.

the filenames show up in xbmc just fine but when i click on them it says "playlist playback aborted. too many consecutive failed items"

the log file shows that xbmc cannot handle these special characters.

i think i have looked through the whole program but i am unable to find any options what can fix this problem.

Welcome to the forums!

Would you mind showing us the log file? It should be in ~/Library/Logs/xbmc.log

Are the files local or are they served over smb?

Cheers,
Jonathan

this log file is around 140 kb in size, so there is little point pasting the whole file.
i am pasting the error itself plus a few lines at each end.

the files are local and accessed through the music->itunes route.

the filename should be /Users/ew/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Compilations/Hanus G. Johansen/14 Vónsvikin.mp3

if you need the whole log file just let me know. i can mail it, or maybe you can point me to some site where i can upload it.

thanks

Hi vip3000, we generally request that log files are posted on some site like pastebin.

Anyhow, since this seems to be iTunes related, it's possible that it's a plugin problem and not an XBMC issue.

Would you able to do the following test:
  • Copy an mp3 that doesn't play due to special characters to your desktop.
  • Start XBMC and go to Music->Desktop and try playing the file from there.
  • Please report success or failure.
  • Again, in case of failure, please post your log file.
Thanks.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.

Looking at your log file again, this section doesn't look good. Either way, please report success or failure for the above test. Thanks.

That has been like it for quite sometime I believe, and it won't affect playback in anyway - it just means ape tags won't be read.

Looks like the .so needs rebuilding perhaps?

_c_GetAPEDuration exists in MACDll-osx.so but not _Z16c_GetAPEDurationPKc so who's calling this.

playing the files on the desktop works fine. i also tried navigating to the itunes folder and they played just fine.

pastebin kept giving me errors when i tried to paste the whole file.

i pasted the beginning of the log. in the middle i made a few blank lines and then pasted the last part of the log file.

there are many thousands of lines missing but it is just the same error repeating countless times:
06:11:38 T:2687487904 M:750252032 ERROR: In file:/Users/d4rk/Code/XBMC/XBMC/guilib/GraphicContext.cpp function:EndPaint line:1367

check out my log at pastebin
