[LIVE] BitTorrent Client included with XBMC Live CD

@Gamester17

I like where this is going. Package "part" of torrentflux in xbmc and let the user decide which backend torrent client to run. That way it would work on all platforms (except the xbox of course). Anyone make the feature request yet?

I don't think torrentflux itself is the way to go about this. I've been casually researching rtorrent, utorrent and transmission and their remote APIs. Conveniently, they're all completely different. I'm currently trying to work out the best way to go about an implementation to provide the ultimate flexibility and scalability.

Yes they are use different APIs but torrentflux-b4rt support most of them, see: http://tf-b4rt.berlios.de/features.html#protocols ...and if you search their forum you see that they also support rtorrent as well as most others that are supported under Linux http://tf-b4rt.berlios.de/forum/ torrentflux-b4rt uses python as the language to talk to the clients so should hopefully not be too much work for XBMC's skilled python scripts to add support for those BitTorrent clients that they wish to use.

Another cool feature i found on the torrentflux-b4rt is the following:

Usenet - supported client:

* nzbperl
— perl based application allowing multi-connection news server downloads from nzb files with functionality for bandwidth throttling

also i can see using wget alot as well:

HTTP/FTP - supported client:

* wget
— standard lightweight file transfer utility on Linux, supported on many platforms

perhaps we can talk to developer of torrentflux-b4rt to also support SABnzbd+.

That would be great being that we already have a python controller for it as well.

ressurecting an old tread, but seeing the ideas posted in thistread it's better then creating a new one.

It would be amazing if Rss feeds could be loaded by an included torrent client, a site like http://feedmytorrents.com/ would supply the links, and the client would then automaticly download the files.

ideas on how do-able this is?

Question
With constantly changing situations its difficult to find what information when searching the forum is still applicable.

What is the best plugin for using bittorrent from xbmc at the moment? I've tried using torrent-x, doesn't seem to work, perhaps not updated for babylon.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for wha's still relevant.

IMHO use transmission, it's a deamon which is configured through web.

sudo apt-get install transmission
IIRC

Just check the packages it draggs in, if it's gtk and such then it's wrong Smile

thats 88mb, a little too big for my 2gb usb stick.
Any other suggestions?

Also a quick linux newbie question.
If i were to install transmission from the console, then how do I run it through the XBMC GUI, I'm assuming its not a script, so presumambly I need it in the programs window, is that automatic?

I believe
sudo apt-get install transmission-daemon transmission-cli

you might need to add clutch to that call aswell, but that is what google should tell you how to do as it's not xbmc live specific. This should give you minimal (less than 88mb).

Transmission is a bittorrent-daemon so you don't use it within XBMC, why would you as you can't browse the web or find the torrents.

transmission has a web interface so you can log on from another computer and handle it. http://www.coolosxapps.net/images/clutch...234732.png

i use rtorrent+flexget+web-gmui atm. if someone port rtorrent script from boxee we can control rtorrent from xbmc inside.

hehe transmission doesn't fit on your 2gb stick?
in times where a 16gb costs 20eur or a 32gb 50eur?

transmission has a beautiful intuitive webiterface
http://www.transmissionbt.com/images/scr...-Large.jpg
also the api is perfect for xbmc plugins imho

i have been a torrentfluxb4rt user for some time but would not go back anymore
not to mention transmission is still developed .. not like torrentflux

don't have much experience with rtorrent but their webinterfaces are in no way a match for transmission
