LCD screens compatable with XBMC Live
#1
I see an option to use a LCD screen with XBMC Live in the settings, but I was wondering what screens are compatable? Ive never seen any small LCD screens that I can use with linux. If anybody knows any please post!

A quick search of the linux forum would have turned up any LCD/VFD supported by LCDProc *should* work.

I know that, but I dont know any screens that are even supported by LCDProc. Would it be better to just wait until more screens would work?

Ok, after a quick search on LCDProc I found their website which lists various LCD screens, and I think I found the perfect one! http://www.crystalfontz.com/product/CFA631-TMF-KU2.html Now my only question is will XBMC have any support for those 4 front buttons? If anyone else knows of some USB LCD screens that will fit in a 3.5" drive bay please post!

Soundgraph and IMON seem to be the most used/supported with Lirc and LCDproc. Silverstone use these in a lot of their case models.

I have tried it a few times with LCDproc and it was a no go ended up purging it all. This was with hardy and a Silverstone LC16M of which there are two version or two methods to setup the VFD one for vfd only and one for both vfd and ir function. There is a link to these files on the Silverstone web-site for the LC16M and the Soundgraph/Imon

It's not silverstone, it a soundgraph IMON installed in a Silverstone chassis as most chassis companines do not use their own anyhow.

Google IMON they make a 5.25. unit.

Ok, I understand now. But the second part of your post is confusing. The LCD im looking at now is, http://www.soundgraph.com/Eng_/Products/...eftMenu=25. Its a great deal, A LCD with built in IR sensor and a remote! Plus it will match my case better then my first one!

One more question, is there a way for me to control what is put on screen through XBMC?
Like is it a setting in the skin or in the system?

I am not sure which part you did not get, but by your link to the IMON you are on the right track.

Most chassis makers use another manufacturers VFD,LCD, IR and remote, in my case (no pun intended) Silverstone uses a Soundgraph/IMON VFD and Ir receiver installed in my case.

I may be wrong but the only case supplier that I know uses there own system is Zalman which I have in my HD-135 and it is a NO GO currently and maybe Thermaltake as well but there maybe more.

I am not sure about programming the LCD / VFD output, I only ever tried to get the IR portion working without using the VFD at all. follow this link and read through all the paragrahs of options it probably will explain it better than I can type it. This link should also work with the unit you posted the link to on your post.

Thanks for your help!, I think I might start looking at other cases that come with a screen . I havent purchased one yet, so if you know of any good mini-atx cases that come with a LCD/VFD screen, post.

I am not sure if you can get the MSI Media Lab case without the board installed, but it is an option and I am pretty sure it works within at least Gutsy currenty and the short cut buttons function as well.

I am not too sure if it is fact called medialab or not. But if you look on the MSI site you should find something.

Nevermind here is a link.

I dont think I can get it without a motherboard. It looks like the holes are drilled in the back specifically for that board. It would work, but its AMD.
