Yes, I did fire this thread back up, and jumped the gun a bit with having an issue / reporting it / etc. I did not know about tools like mediainfo, but after getting that I was able to analyze my feed and see where the issue was/is. Handbrake defaults to only one channel of audio, AAC. If you put AC3 in the first slot it plays great in xbmc on apple tv. Makes the file a good bit larger (1.7 vs 1.1 gb), but gets the full surround sound. So happy I got that figured out. It was a classic case of garbage in / garbage out.

I've searched these forums and although I've seen some postings with some issues with AC3 I could not find anything pertaining to AC3 and the AppleTV.

I have the same problem with you.Searched Google and many forums.And i lucky.I found Aunsoft video converter through Google search engine.And hopefully this software will help you to convert AC3 to AAC for Apple TV.
