BUG?: XBMC has stopped working message i Vista.
#1
I have the same proble happening every time I play a mp3 CD (any CD). I have them ripped to the 500GB external USB drive. No problem accessing it or the videos, or other media. But when I play any CD then after about 10-15 minutes of flawless play (with or without the screen saver) the screen goes blank and there is a Vista message: XBMC has stopped wroking. And below: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. By then the screen is blank and when I click on the button "Close Progrem" I'm back in Vista with XBMC closed. Thanks for looing into this. Here is the full log:

Although I have yet to generate a debug log for this, I am having basically the exact same problem. I would say I make it about 5-7 minutes before XBMC crashes. When it crashes, it is to one of the following degrees:

1. The "XBMC has stopped responding" message appears and I can click "close the program" and return to the desktop and start over. (As stated by OP)
2. The screen freezes and I can CAD to terminate the process, return to the desktop and start over.
3. The screen freezes and the PC stops responding all together. The only remedy here is to push the self-destruct (reset) button.

The majority of the time, I am faced with scenario 1. I should have a few minutes later to be able to generate a debug log for this and I will post when I do.

System Info:
- XBMC Beta 2 (10-06-08)
- AMD 3.0GHz Dual-Core / 2GB RAM (1.5G System, 512M allocated to IGP)
- Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H w/ ATI Radeon HD3200 IGP / Catalyst 8.9
- Vista SP1

EDIT: Debug Log: http://pastebin.com/m1119345e
Please note in this instance, it was scenario 3 above - hard lock.

Does this only happens for mp3 on CD or also when started from a local hdd?

For me at least, the only media that I was trying to play was either .mp3 or .m4a files on the local hard drive. No CD's or networked media at all.

In investigating another issue, I found that Vista was still set to run XBMC in XP SP2 compatibility mode as administrator from when I was last testing one of the Alpha versions. I corrected this and haven't had the playback/crash issue again so far. I plan to keep testing this for a couple more days and will report back if it happens again along with the exact scenario in which it happened.

Thanks!

OK so I have straightened out a bunch of other issues but this is one of the few that persist. It takes much longer now but still, XBMC just randomly crashes when playing music. Here is the latest log I have concerning this issue: http://pastebin.com/m67dcf80

Of particular note:
19:27:37 T:648 M:964440064 FATAL: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at 0x007c886f

After more testing today, it I guess I just got lucky that one time in it lasting more then 3-4 songs. Crashes every time. It's always memory leaks leading to an access violation as noted in both the logs posted by the OP and myself.

Another day, another crash, another log (or two Wink):
http://pastebin.com/m27633865
http://pastebin.com/m508285f8

The error seems to be fairly consistent and everything I have tried has failed so I give up. I'll officially place this in the hands of the XBMC gods and hope they can find what is causing this error. I'd be happy to help but I only just started learning C++ and just don't know enough to dig into the code and figure out what's going on. Yet.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I just start XBMC, start playing music and get the "XBMC has stopped responding" message a few songs later.

I'm going to search and see what I can find but does anyone know if there is a Trac ticket for this? Should there be if there isn't?

Sorry it took me a few days to answer your question Wiso, but it happens when I play already ripped mp3's that are located on a hdd. The harddisk is extrenal 500GB usb drive (again no problem playing it via other Windows VIsta programs).
I basically quite using the XBMC as much as I love it for the XBOX platform where I use it every single day!!! I would love to start using it daily as it's a very familiar application for me and I love the way it's designed and the graphics, etc. Hopefully someone will figure out what's wrong with stuff like that
Thanks again for looking into it.
I will check if it happens also with the files on the iternal HDS (C:\) and will let you know asap.

please do so. I played several mp3s on XP and Vista but never encounter this issue.

Ok, so everything somehow went back to normal.
I played some mp3's off the C:\ drive in Vista for a few hours, no playback problems at all.
And then I went back and played mp3's off the external 500 USB drive and this time, no problems at all either. I'm not sure what happened. Somehow after pointing it to the C:\ drive and playing off the folder in there XBMC must have reset the way it deals with other shares/locations, because it plays without any problems now. I'll keep monitoring it for a few days, but both yesterday and this morning it seems to be working fine with external USB drives
Thanks for your time
