Hi all,

With fiber-to-the-home becoming increasingly popular (dedicated FTTH, PON/GPON etc.), more and more homes get access to various real-time video services over Ethernet. I'm not talking about viewing trailers from Apple or clips from YouTube, but rather watching TV (often HDTV) or getting VoD as real-time multicast stream. Since XBMC does a great job as an HTPC, it can naturally be extended to replace (or complement) a digital TV set-top box. The TV stream itself (aside of any conditional access system) is rather simple, usually MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 (quite often H.264) sent as multicast packets. Viewing such stream should not be hard with XBMC as long as we can tell the box which multicast group to join. So, my question is: has anybody tried this or made any efforts in this direction?
