how to add sources on the apple tv
#1
hi - i just installed xbmc and the latest atlantis beta 2 and i am trying to add a source where all my movie files are located.

i have 3 external firewire drives but none of them show up when i click on the "/volumes" directory within xbmc. am i looking in the wrong spot ?

also, is there an easy way to sort of combine all my 3 external drives into one source so that i won't have to jump between the drives when watching a movie ? sort of like it is in itunes where i don't really need to bother with where the actual file is located, as long as itunes knows where it is.

i really like the xbmc and boxee interfaces, but adding content seems to be a little complicated.

can anyone help me with this ?
many thanks
marc

Where are the discs? In another machine? You have to share them via SMB and add the shares in XBMC.

Once all your sources are added to your Library it does not matter where they are, you see all your movies in the Movies option, all the TV in TV and so on.

Do you guys have any idea how to do the same thing on PC...??

I'm stuck at exactly the same spot but I have a PC.

I don't know how to share my content as I've never used network before, I basically right clicked on my G volume (external hard drive connected by USB to my PC) which is where all my media is located, clicked on the "Share" option, and am pretty much where I was before I did that, ie nothing familiar shows up on the network when I'm trying to add a source

I've been trying for the past 5 hours, I'm going crazy... This looks like a great system, but I think my IT skills are way too limited for it...!!!!!

jvaislic, make sure that you have your workgroup set the same on both your pc and aTV, then simply browse for the network share.

that's not the problem, they're both set to WORKGROUP, but I cannot access my computer or my external hard drive from the ATV, which basically defeats its purpose... I'm pretty pis$$ed off about that, anyone can try to explain me step by stepwhat I need to do to set up a network that would make my harddrive visible to the ATV?

Otherwise I guess I'm gonna have to pay someone to do it SadSad

I'm going to guess Windows XP because you don't mention which Windows OS you are running.
