[Apple TV] A52 codec & XBMC
#1
I have ATV running XBMC courtesy of Boxee/XBMC Launcher.

All functions fine, except AVI files with AC3 sound using the A52 codec playback as a horrible garbage of noise.

I can change the playback from digital to analogue and get 2 channel sound OK but can anyone suggest how I can get the correct AC3 audio playing? Is there a simple way to reinstall or update the A52 codec?

I have played back other AC3 files (with different codec I assume) the same way and got perfect 5.1 surround sound coming out of my amp.

My setup is ATV > HDMI > Panasonic LCD (passthrough) > Sony 5.1 Amp.

I can Fugu into the ATV but don't know where to go/what to update.... Help Smile :confused2:

Anyone have any pointers? Or a better place to ask this question?

I only tend to bother with Surround sound for good movies, it's so frustrating to get all settled for a cinematic experience only to hear that awful noise start up (TRRRRRRRR).

I a having this same problem with a fresh install... How can this be resolved... The files play great through Boxee on same patchstick install...

What logs do you need to be able to solve this?? Or how do I update the Codec, or tell XBMC to use the codec Boxee is using.

Thank you ahead of time...

CaptChrisD, I already asks for logs in your other thread-jack. See my sig for where xbmc.log located on the AppleTV.

The log file is at: http://pastebin.com/m338e27e

The log shows three video files being opened. The first is a .avi with garbage audio, the second is a .mkv with garbage audio and the third is a .avi with GOOD audio.

I have tried configuring the audio hardware in every combination under System > Video > Player > Configure Audio Hardware... including Analog. If I choose analog I get no audio output and the video is about 2x.

I have my receiver connected via RCA cables to the appletv and the TV connected via HDMI.

Thank you,
Chris

Starting XBMC, Platform: Mac OS X. Built on May 26 2009 (SVN:20677)

This build uses PortAudio, it's pretty old. I'd update to one of the nightly builds which uses coreaudio. I would also wait until 23940 or later. 23940 contained a critical fix with respect to avi and framedropping.

And how do you do this? Is there a tutorial other then

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...htly+build

Because the link to the tutorial in that post is gone... pdf is not there anymore...

Thank you

Has a solution been found to this problem? Videos using the A52 codec which happened to play fine under Babylon have started displaying the audio problem described above with Camelot. I tried both the beta of Camelot then the official release version.

Thank you.

SOLVED - read the initial question closer... had audio out set to digital instead of analog now audio sounds fine

It has nightly builds select the one for mac OSX and it simply downloads the latest version of XBMC, use the one you have downloaded.

Does any of the nightly builds install a new a52 codec?

...for apple tv 2 that is. I really would like my 5.1 setup to work with these movies.
