I mean more of hacking the IR update from the apple tv back onto a mini or a mbp or the like. I would assume apple would be using the same IR hardware on all platforms.

The http link to download the file does not work; it downloads in a browser window as text. Maybe a server MIME type issue... not sure.

davilla - thanks for the suggestions of how to manually run the update script, xbmc-8.10_update.sh

when does this item get created?

and do you have the location now?

my atv auto-updated to 2.3. i got everything installed again (AFP, ssh, usb, etc). then tried the update method as was originally described. at this point i searched for the above file but found nothing.

also at this time, my apple remote stopped working. well, just the up/down/play buttons so i couldnt use the main menu. i have done a factory restore and upgraded to 2.3, used the atvusb patchstick, restored all previous config, but still i am unable to upgrade to any newer xbmc version (final or beta2 - at this point i'd be happy with either!)

I update ATV to 2.3 then use patchstick (atvusb-creator-1.0.b7.zip). But i'm unable download/update xbmc.

Next:
Quote:-bash-2.05b$ sudo find / -name xbmc-8.10_update.sh -print
/mnt/Scratch/Users/frontrow/Library/Caches/XBMCLauncherDownloads/xbmc-8.10_update.download/xbmc-8.10_update.sh
Then upload XBMC_for_Mac-Atlantis-Beta_2.dmg to /mnt/Scratch/Users/frontrow/Library/Caches/XBMCLauncherDownloads/
Quote:-bash-2.05b$ sudo /mnt/Scratch/Users/frontrow/Library/Caches/XBMCLauncherDownloads/xbmc-8.10_update.download/xbmc-8.10_update.sh /mnt/Scratch/Users/frontrow/Library/Caches/XBMCLauncherDownloads/xbmc-8.10_update.download/XBMC_for_Mac-Atlantis-Beta_2.dmg
sudo: /mnt/Scratch/Users/frontrow/Library/Caches/XBMCLauncherDownloads/xbmc-8.10_update.download/xbmc-8.10_update.sh: command not found
Next:
Quote:-bash-2.05b$ cd /mnt/Scratch/Users/frontrow/Library/Caches/XBMCLauncherDownloads/xbmc-8.10_update.download/
-bash-2.05b$ ls
xbmc-8.10_update.sh
-bash-2.05b$ sudo xbmc-8.10_update.sh
sudo: xbmc-8.10_update.sh: command not found

according to davilla

davilla Wrote:sudo find / -name xbmc-8.10_update.sh -print

one up from that path is the directory that contaings the xbmc dmg.

run the bmc-8.10_update.sh passing the path to the dmg.

I found both files but I do not know the commant to "pass the path to the dmg"

Temporaly files for update placed in /mnt/Scratch/Users/frontrow/Library/Caches/XBMCLauncherDownloads
XBMC updater (xbmc-8.10_update.sh) in folder "xbmc-8.10_update.download"
XBMC 'Atlantis' dmg-file in folder "XBMC_for_Mac-8.10.download"

having restored my appletv from v1.0 right up to v2.3 again, i still have the same issue.

when clicking the update option, 0.6 launcher is listed. i get the black screen for a couple of seconds and then returns to the menu. however if i search for the suggested file, it is not on my system (yes, i used the exact same syntax)

To manual update i set +x flag on xbmc-8.10_update.sh and execute it with parameter XBMC_for_Mac-8.10.dmg
Update completed successfully Smile

randomice, i cannot chmod the script file, as i dont even seem to have it... when i select the update the launcher, i get the black screen and then it returns as davilla suggested it, but i get no files downloaded or anything.

can i redownload the latest mac version and do a manual install with that, seeing as i have ssh access to the appletv?

pleeeeeease help me - have been xbmc-less now since that <insert expletive here> v2.3 autoupdate!!!!

jingo_man see private message. Upload xbmc-8.10_update.sh & xbmc*.dmg to atv and manually install xbmc. Do not forget about chmod.

brilliant randomice, thanks for the script syntax. i applied this with the Mac OSX 8.10 image downloaded from this site.

it errored towards the end with:
Quote:chown: /Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/Remote Buddy: No such file or directory

but it seems there isnt much else done after this item anyway.

when i launch the app now, it appears in the bottom left corner of the screen and has no remote control. the script lists 2 parameters, so should i reinstall passing in the latest appletv keymap.xml file? if so, is this freely available?

after a few remote clicks, it also comes up with:
Quote:An error occurred. Press Play/Pause to restart Appletv

i would hope this maybe resolved by the above issue?

I just got XBMC running again on AppleTV 2.3
No real good idea about how I did it, but it was something like this:

I used my old patchstick I used to patch 2.2. In the menu the XBMC and Boxee buttons reappeared, but updating didn't work. I ssh'd in (using frontrow:frontrow)

Then I saw this on the boxee forums: http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?p=13316

From that, I made something like this (I wrote this from memory, so use common sense when trying this):

wget http://atv-xbmc-launcher.googlecode.com/...-debug.run
wget http://atv-xbmc-launcher.googlecode.com/...ate-0.6.sh
sh launcher-update-0.6.sh XBMCLauncher-0.6-debug.run
wget http://ovh.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforg...c-8.10.dmg
wget http://atv-xbmc-launcher.googlecode.com/..._update.sh
sh xbmc-8.10_update.sh XBMC_for_Mac-8.10.dmg
sudo reboot

It's now working, so I think I'm in the right direction
