I have had the xbox version for years, and I have installed the 8.1 release on my Window XP Pro baded HTPC. I am having a problem where any DVD I try and play (original or burned) freezes right before the menu would appear, usually while the studio logo is still on the screen. I have been able to play the same disc on the same machine with Power DVD, so I believe the disc and drive are working appropriately. I have been reading on the message board looking for a solution, but I have not been able to locate one. I am a newbie to the XBMC application, but I love the look and feel. Video playback from my NAS and from my other computers is working fine, and I am only having problems with actual DVD playback. I did try forcing the region as was recommended in other threads, but this did not resolve my problem.

ATI X1300 video card
Liteon DVD-RW drive
XBMC 8.1
