Lost in the interface...

Question
Hi all,

I recently patched my ATV with XBMC. As I have not been an Xbox user, I'm a bit lost in the interface of XMBC. I'm sure it will slowly all start making sense, but at this moment I could use some pointers.

Running firmware 2.1 with the latest Launcher & XBMC bf1 version.

1. First of all, I cant seem to mount my PC shares. I've been doing a lot of searching but cant seem to get it to work. I have shared the folder on the network correctly and tried it with and without a specified user to the shared folder, still no go. It keeps timing out (do not have any firewall specified on my PC)

2. I would like to use the Library functionality within XBMC. However, when I select VIDEOS in the main menu, the Library function does not seem to be active, eventho I have enabled this option in the configuration screen. Do I need to specify where I have uploaded my media somewhere?

3. My TV is capable of viewing 720p, but selecting this resolution in XBMC will throw off the screenresolution. I'm not able to view the entire screen anymore. Not sure if this is a problem with my TV setting or with XBMC.

4. Haven't looked yet, but I'm sure XBMC will also allow me to use an external USB HD.

Thanks for this great port to the AppleTV!

1) not a clue, are you wired or wireless? need more info.

2) is your media local or remote (smb server). need to scan you content into the library before you can enable library mode.

3) pick the setting that has "fullscreen" in it.

4) need to enable USB device support. The AppleTV OS handles this not XBMC.

Thanks for the responses.

I dont know how I could have overlooked the sections you quoted Gamester.

After editing the XML file I was able to browse my shares on my PC. My wireless connection (PC is also wireless) is horrible so I will need to see what I'm going to do about that.

Setting the content of the folder is still difficult to do with the Apple remote as it's not as clear to me what the Context Menu button would be on the remote?

I'll have a look at the NitoTV link to see about configuring for USB support.

Thanks again!

The context menu is always tricky to find when first starting. Hold down the menu button for about 2 seconds.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. The wiki article states to press PLAY 2x in the 'files view' in My Videos. I assume this is when you go to the VIDEO section in the main menu.

Neither pressing Play 2x (just selects the menu item or video I'm on) or holding MENU will get me this 'Content Menu'?

I assume I need to be on the page that shows the directory (MOVIES) that I want to add to the Library?

So I'm able to create resources. Once I create a resource, I'm able to set the content through the same dialog box.

For some odd reason, I still can't seem to access the context menu to remove or update any of the created other resources.

Okay, never mind. Seems I need to turn UNIVERSAL MODE to off with the newest Launcher release. I will try this later. I was going nuts pushing buttons and not seeing this context menu. As I just started with this, I had no clue if I was doing anything wrong or not. This all is starting to make more sense now Smile
