Integrated reading of Blu-ray folder / file-structure and autostart without menu?

Lightbulb
I want to rip my BD discs without altering the filestructure. That means that the actual .mt2s file is located in the streams subfolder, ie X:\XBMC Movies\Eastern Promises (2007)\BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts.

If i scrape recursivly I end up with lots of entries in the database because of multiple .m2ts videofiles in the stream directory. If I scan non-recursivly I end up with nothing.

Is there a script or function that detects (during a scrape) if any of the subfolders are a BDMV folder and then only pics the largest file in the stream subfolder. Then it should work for 99% for all BD movies without the need to alter the existing filestructure and have everything automatic.

Is the an alternative way to solve my problem?

That is currently not support, so please submit a feature request on trac => http://trac.xbmc.org

Note! Make sure you detail a little more how an original a Blu-ray Disc i structured Wink
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.

I have a feature proposal regarding blu-ray folder rips.

I was thinking that if XBMC could read/parse the playlist file, it could either automatically determine the default video/audio streams and/or let the user choose which stream to play. One example of a program which already does this is RipBot264.

In this manner, it could make integrating blu-ray folder rips into the library super simple (from the enduser view point), it would simply be a manner of specifying a root folder with a bunch of BR folder rips (using the folder name as the movie name), scanning each movie subfolders for the playlist file(s) and automagically play the m2ts streams.

Since XBMC can already play the m2ts streams, its (seems to be) just a matter of reading the playlist file(s) and concatenating/playing the applicable m2ts streams as normal.

This would allow end users to play blu-ray disks directly (with anydvd) or blu-ray ripped folders without having to convert to mkv or other formats, while also keeping intact the normal BR disk structure (and/or opening the way for reading BR iso files).

I am not at all advocating that the BR menus or other advanced features be implemented, or anything with decryption.

Only that XBMC learn to read BR folders in the same manner than it can read DVD folders with the VOB files and such.

edit: trac ticket added 12/10/2009 @ http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/8079

And when you say 'advanced features' do you mean bloated buggy java craplets? Big GrinLaugh

Is it possible to play a movie without using the menu?

Sure, just gotta know which m2ts file it is, usually the largest filesize.

So what TeknoJnky is talking about is some kind of playlist that automatically figures out the correct order of the m2ts files. Sounds great!, but will it work when changing audio/subtitle? Otherwise you will end up having to change the audio stream every time XBMC loads a new m2ts file.

Another question, does XBMC support the new DTS and Dolby Digital formats? Will be kind of lame to be available to play blu rays but not the original audio streams on the disc.

there is already playlist built into the br file structure that has the correct mt2s order known as #####.mpls files.

http://www.videohelp.com/hd

all that XBMC needs to do is recognize the bluray directory structure and scan through the mpls files trying to identify the main movie and/or presenting a dialog to let the user choose which mpls (and its associated streams) to play.

that sounds great - I'd love to have such a feature - I'm also willing to donate for it, but donating certain features is unfortunately not welcome here. All I'm looking for is a piece of software that can manage all my media (be it real discs or backups on hdd) and play it. I'd even love to pay for such a software unless it has all features I'm looking for and has a nice GUI. I just wanna finally have a working HTPC without having to be a geek to use it and have to switch between several tools. But I fear that might not happen in the next few years Sad

Actually you can donate to a specific cause, at least I think you can.....
