When I select the correct resolution xmbc goes full windowed on my screen.
My task bar on top and below are still vissable, I tried almost every resolution but I cannot get it to fully fullscreen.
I am running xbmc on Ubuntu 8.04 with a nvidia 7900 video card.
Who can advise what is wrong here?

have searched the forum?? there are several posts regarding this.
you either can disable compiz - system > preferences > appereance > visual effects = none
or if you want to keep compiz - install compiz settings manager, then goto system>preferences>advanced desktop
and uncheck "unredirect fullsreen windows" under general tab.
non-windowed full screen should now work
hope this helps

Both do not work.
If I run with compiz disabled it has the same effect, taskbars are both vissible xbmc and maximized. A other thing, I do not want to disable compiz, I use it a lot! (the whole time)
If I run xbmc -fs from the console xbmc looks bigger but both taskbars are still vissible.
added:
Also with taskbar hided I still see a border of the window of xbmc, even when I play a movie the border window is vissible....

Make sure your desktop and xbmc have the same resolution set.

did you try changing the resolution in xbmc when you had compiz disabled?
Also what happens when you press \
it should toggle between window'd and fullscreen.
like i said below, to keep compiz you'll have to install compizconfig-settings-manager, and uncheck "unredirect fullsreen windows", without doing that xbmc is likely to crash due to a bug with compiz.
