a/v sync out by 3+ seconds using myth://

We've been having some audio sync issues playing back Myth TV recordings.

It gets out of sync after using BigSkipForward of 210s and then very slowly (perhaps over 20 seconds) drifts back to ~0. Can get out of sync by over 3 seconds. Sync seems to be worse the further through the show it is.

Pause doesn't reset the a/v sync back to 0.

During normal playback a/v sync varies between 200ms - 800ms, which is definitely noticeable.

It's probably exacerbated by %170 CPU usage it currently takes to playback the 1080i recordings. Over an hour show we might get 10,000+ dropped frames so our playback is just barely liveable.

Is the a/v sync problem because XBMC isn't coping with the playback, or is there some other information I can provide to help define the problem further?

On reading other threads it seems that video sync is done based on the audio clock so I'm not sure why we'd be getting a/v sync >1s.
